WP11 - User trials

Objectives

The objective of this workpackage is to verify MOBIlearn models, solutions & user interaction with different kinds of real users trials. These trials complete the evaluation from external users' perspective and support the creation of MOBIlearn showcase, for further exploitation.

Description of work

Partner 1 will lead this workpackage. The user trials will be organised in detail through a planning document (D11.1), but field trials cover "blended learning" (as part of formal courses); "adventious, location-dependent learning" (during visits to museums); and "learning to interpret information sources and advice" (acquiring medical information for everyday needs). Four user trials for each of the three selected scenarios will be carried out. The main agreed trials will be:

  • Partner 11 will provide access to individuals and organisations outside the existing educational delivery model.
  • Partner 18, from USA, will provide access to learners of Graduate Business School.
  • Partner 8 will give access to students of its master in business administration.
  • Partner 17 will do some small trials to test the single subsystems.
  • Partner 21 will do a trial on location-based (context-aware) "learning by game", using PDA's, to provide engaging learning experiences in mobile environment.
  • ALMA Web, member of the MOBIlearn Special Interest and users' Group (SIG, not partner), will give access to four masters in Business Administration.
  • Firenze Musei consortium, member of SIG (not partner), will give access to all the European historical and cultural heritage locations of the City of Florence (six million visitors per year).
  • European Resuscitation Council, member of SIG (not partner), will give access to all its citizen-level courses for basic medical emergency best practices (such as Basic Life Support).

Mobile operators involved will provide network coverage, as agreed in detail in D11.1. All the other partners of this WP will set-up small trials, according to the details of D11.1. Evaluation criteria, methodologies and templates have been defined in WP2. The rather innovative approach to apply cognitive load theory [COGLOAD] to m-learning will be explored for pedagogy-oriented evaluation (WP4). This would be an invaluable addition to the current state of knowledge about "best practice" for learning & teaching using ICT.

Deliverables

  • PM25: D11.1 Users' trials planning document
  • PM30: D11.2 Evaluation of MOBIlearn final system

Milestones and expected result

The result of this WP is an extensive evaluation report from external real users that will be the basis for further MOBIlearn exploitation.
