WP5 - Adaptive human interfaces subsystem

Objectives

To design and to develop the Adaptive human interfaces subsystem according to specifications agreed in WP10 (D10.1 System architecture and design document). The functionalities of this subsystem will be documented to be clear to end-users (mobile learner).

Description of work

The work involves the following tasks:·

  • Task 5.1 Specification:
To identify and document the basic components of the adaptive human interfaces subsystem and define the interfaces with the other subsystems. The aim of the adaptive human interface research is to explore how the interfaces of mobile devices utilizing geographic and profile information could to be designed to make the use of the developed service as easy, efficient and pleasant as possible in all use situations. The work focuses on the possibilities of the interfaces in personal navigation. Through developing an adaptive interface we wish to enable a simpler, more elegant and more intuitive interaction with the digital world. This task will specify the general "system image" (interface and interaction design).
  • Task 5.2 Prototypes:
The prototypes are designed to evaluate personal navigation services by the users in different contexts of use and in different types of devices. Part of the work relates to prototyping combined interface, that supports larger, full screen operations on computer or on Digital television with web-browser while simultaneously enabling smaller scale operations in PDA or mobile phone with microbrowser. User profile research is a vital part of this work. What issues affects users needs of information, how users could benefit adaptive services and when information should be adapted.

This work will be based on expertise already acquired in different previous projects (such as Future Digital TV, Key usability and Ethics). Incrementally improved releases of the subsystem will be integrated in corresponding MOBIlearn prototypes (WP10) and evaluated according criteria and cycles defined in WP2. Partner 12 coordinates WP5.
