Emblaze Systems Ltd. (EMBLAZE, IL)
|
|
Founded in 1994, Emblaze Systems
pioneered the introduction of instantaneous video delivery to handheld
and mobile devices. The company went public in 1996 and is traded on the
London Stock Exchange. Networked around the globe, over four hundred employees
focus on developing and supporting practical solutions based on Emblaze
wireless technology.
Emblaze offers carriers proven leading-edge technologies that broaden
and strengthen the services offered to their subscribers. Emblaze is ahead
of the market, having implemented a commercially-available, deployable
solution that runs on all generation systems from 2G to 2.5G to 3G systems,
while at the same time conducting research and developing technologies
that will enable carriers to provide optimum service capabilities on future
cellular systems.
Emblaze develops commercial mobile media solutions for wireless carriers,
ISP's, content providers and handset manufacturers. With a product line
ranging from mobile media platforms to MPEG-4 video ASIC semiconductors,
Emblaze offers carrier-class, scalable solutions that facilitate the deployment
and implementation of complete commercial media services over any wireless
network. The Emblaze platform encompasses live and on-demand encoders,
powerful streaming servers, content and asset management, system integration
and billing interfaces.
In order to enhance wireless multimedia services, Emblaze has been involved
in the development of a wide range of wireless media applications - including
messaging, news, location-based information systems and entertainment
systems. The company sees tremendous potential in the field of mobile
e-learning, and is most interested in exploring the opportunities and
challenges posed by this field.
Emblaze Systems maintains a leadership role in the development of streaming
multimedia capabilities:
- Emblaze was the first to introduce a commercial
mobile media platform worldwide;
- Emblaze's solution is air-interface independent
and works across any type of wireless architecture including GSM, CDMA,
GPRS, EDGE, W-CDMA, CDMA 2000 and UMTS;
- Emblaze sets the standard for interactive
media delivery by being a founding and active member of organisations
governing industry standards (e.g. 3GPP, 3GPP2, IMTC, WMF, MPEG-4);
- Emblaze plays a leading role in a current
international effort to ensure standardisation by conducting interoperability
testing for MPEG-4 encoding and the RTP transmissions;
- Emblaze has conducted pioneering research
in the field of codec optimisation and bandwidth adaptation, allowing
its systems to provided maximum quality of service under limited and
varying bandwidth conditions.
Emblaze supports customers with a complete
portfolio of services, including installation, program management, 24/7
support, training and business consultancy services. The corporate headquarters
and main research centre is located in Givatayim, Israel. Additional offices
are located in Germany, UK, Japan, Korea, Singapore and the U.S.A. Emblaze
Systems Ltd. is the flagship company of the Emblaze Systems Group which
includes two fully-owned subsidiaries: Emblaze Research (a semiconductor
chip design and research company) and Orca Interactive (a developer of
interactive TV applications for broadband on-demand video over IP networks).
EMBLAZE's Dissemination Plan
Emblaze is heavily involved in a number of standardisation groups that
are actively involved in defining the standards for cellular networks
in general and mobile multimedia in particular. If, as expected, the MOBIlearn
project leads to the definitions of formats and interfaces that enhance
the ability to deliver mobile e-learning, then Emblaze is ideally positioned
to submit proposals for standards definitions related to cellular technology
and mobile media technology and fully intends to identify relevant interfaces
and guidelines resulting from the project and submit them as proposals
to the standards bodies. Two standardization groups that Emblaze expects
to be most relevant in this field are 3GPP and The Parlay Group. 3GPP
was created to produce globally applicable technical specifications and
technical reports for a 3rd generation mobile system based on evolved
GSM core networks. Emblaze is actively involved in Working Groups SA1,
SA2 and SA4. These groups are part of the TSG Service and System Aspects
(TSG SA) which is responsible for the overall architecture and service
capabilities of systems based on 3GPP specifications. The Parlay Group
is an open multi-vendor consortium formed to develop open technology-independent
Application Programming Interfaces (API's). The goal is to allow the development
of applications and technology solutions that operate across multiple
networking platform environments by a wide range of organisations: technology,
Internet and eBusiness companies, ISV's, software developers, network
device vendors and providers, service bureaus, ASP's, application suppliers
and large and small enterprises. Two relevant platforms where Emblaze
expects to publicise MOBIlearn results are ACM and IEEE.
