The International Centre for
Digital Content (ICDC) aims to position the North West of England at the
forefront of digital content innovation. We are a partnership between
Liverpool John Moores University and Mersey Television. ICDC explores
the relationship of technology to society - the way we live, the way we
learn and the way we work - through present and emerging applications.
ICDC is ideally placed to provide support and enhance the levels of skills,
knowledge, and expertise necessary to see the region as an international
contender in the knowledge economy. It will provide the region with a
real competitive edge and takes advantage of the regions creative and
innovative talent. Whether it is established Businesses or industry wanting
specific research into new technological developments, new start ups needing
expertise in specific skill sets or enhancing opportunities for people
to access the regions technological infrastructure, the ICDC will be seen
as providing the solution.
ICDC has four core functions:
Research and Production. Research and development is the key activity
for ICDC in integrating the latest digital content technologies that range
from mobile technology, broadband, virtual reality, interactive television,
next generation mobile phones, computer animation for the Film Industry,
internet, personal digital assistants, ubiquitous and ambient technologies.
The ICDC research and production focus is creative content. The methods
and means of enhancing and creating new opportunities, building new social
and personal structures and exploring new forms of communities is key
to the ICDC research strategy.
Training. Training for both individuals and organisations in digital
content skills and techniques. Courses and projects at ICDC aim to enable
individuals and companies to develop and realise their creative talents
within the context of the development of the new media industries.
Partnerships. Partnerships provide the content and rationale for
all the centres activities. Identifying the needs of its partners, public
and private, so that content can be specifically tailored to them, is
one of the Centre's main strengths. Partnerships with strategic bodies
and industry are enabling the centre to examine and support the creative
and innovative practices within the new technology sector that are integral
to the future development of the region.
Business Growth. The business growth function incorporates both
the external relations of the ICDC and a support infrastructure for the
development of new businesses generated as a result of product development
and research functions.
