SFERA ENEL (ENEL-SFERA, I)

The development of individual and organisational knowledge through continuous training has become a factor of competitive advantage for the Enel Group as it faces the challenges presented by the market. Sfera is the group's 'corporate university' and, as such, is dedicated to human resources training and professional growth processes. It offers a broad range of integrated and personalised learning programmes for all employees.

Drawing on the group's know-how and that of its partners, as well as practical experience gained during classroom and long-distance training, Sfera has put together a training package for the external market. The programme's contents have been certified by universities and prestigious international training institutes, and it offers the added benefits of a personalised teaching approach and access to an easy-to-operate, advanced technological platform.

The Sfera package offers the following:
Contents. Sfera has an exclusive online catalogue of more than 1400 titles created in collaboration with leading national and international universities and know-how centres (Englishtown.com, NETg, Milan Polytechnic, Bocconi SDA, University of California-Los Angeles). It also designs and produces tailored courses to meet the needs of customers and specific corporate realities.
Services. Sfera's products are supplemented by advanced training-support and course-monitoring tools. These include online tutoring and mentoring, virtual classrooms, tools that
complement and control the learning process, forums, chat-rooms and news groups.
Technology. Sfera's platforms for e-learning and knowledge management can be configured according to the customer's needs.
Consulting. Sfera designs and implements e-learning and knowledge management systems, developing original learning methodologies to establish integrated training approaches.

Sfera has designed and manages the Enel Distance Learning System (EDLS) for the Enel Group. This is an integrated environment for online training programmes that allows participants to study without interrupting their everyday work activities and provides for assisted training programmes that assess the different phases of the professional experience. The only restriction imposed on students wishing to enter the EDLS is that they access the group's intranet from a personal computer.
EDLS, one of the most advanced e-learning systems in Italy, offers more than 800 online courses that range from technical subjects such as IT, energy and safety, to management, behaviour studies and English. It also boasts several support services, such as online tutoring, a virtual community and classroom, which turn training into a comprehensive and pleasant experience for the student.
EDLS is enriched with updated and user-friendly editorial tools, both in English and Italian, which are useful for work or act as an information resource. They include language and idiomatic dictionaries, encyclopaedias, grammar support and lexical particularities, critiques, dossiers, interviews, tests and magazines.

In addition to its distance-learning activities, Sfera has consolidated experience in traditional training. Its didactic programmes are designed to develop specialist knowledge (juridical, economic, administrative, technological) and specific capabilities (managerial, relational, intellectual, emotional, innovative), and represent a necessary means of supporting professional growth.
On 1 January 2002, Sfera acquired Enel Group's ADS school, which offers specialist courses in control, development, management and maintenance of thermoelectric power stations (39,000 teaching days in 2001). Having been active for more than 25 years in training areas related to technical-industrial processes, the school is acknowledged internationally as one of the most important centres of excellence for the development of competency in said areas.

Training programmes designed by Sfera, which are executed in conjunction with the most important competence centres in Italy and overseas, aim to develop a permanent learning culture and to help organisations to overcome the latest challenges in the labour market, as well as promoting teamwork, network culture and knowledge sharing.
